Welcome to the main gallery page at pteratory.com (pronounced 'TERRA-tory'). 'Ptera' is a latin root for 'wing' or 'winged' (PTERAdactyl, lepidoPTERA, etc.).

This is not an expert site; it's one man's view of things outside his door in Comal County, TX. Many thanks are due to the wonderful folks at Bugguide, MPG, TX-Butterfly Listserver, and so many other experts and enthusiasts far more knowledgeable than I, for their time and efforts in identifying many leps found here.

Comments (relative to the subject matter of this site) are welcomed, particularly if something is misidentified or otherwise in error. Click on 'Sidebar' or the sidebar icon above for search, comment addition, or navigational tools, or use the nav tree below. You may also utilize the breadcrumb nav bar above left or simply click the image thumbnails to maneuver within albums.

Thanks for all the good information. I do look up your site when I see a new kind of butterfly. How about adding others like dragonflies? For those interested, also visit this science website with educational videos...
